[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] On the afternoon of the 12th, President Moon Jae-in attended the 2021 New Police Lieutenant and Police Inspector Appointment Ceremony held at the Police University in Asan, Chungnam, and urged responsible investigations centered on the people.
President Moon's attendance at the new police appointment ceremony is the third time since his inauguration, following 2018 and 2020. At this ceremony, 165 people were appointed, including the 37th class of the Police University, the 69th class of Police Executive Candidates, and the 7th class of Lawyer Career Competitive Recruitment. In particular, President Moon encouraged the newly launched National Investigation Headquarters this year by awarding a sash (綬幟).
The Blue House explained, "The phrase symbolizing this appointment ceremony is ‘People-Centered Responsible Investigation,’ which signifies the appointees' pledge to become trustworthy public safety experts as investigative agents protecting the lives and property of the people."

The National Police Agency decided to prioritize assigning Police University and Executive Candidate appointees to frontline investigative departments such as the Economic Crime Investigation Team to enhance the police's investigative capabilities with the launch of the National Investigation Headquarters. Previously, Police University and Executive Candidate appointees worked six months at frontline district police stations (or police boxes) and then two years in the police station's economic team.
On this day, President Moon personally awarded the Presidential Award to Police Lieutenant Noh Young-min (Police University) and Police Lieutenant Lee Yeon-hee (Executive Candidate), who achieved excellent results. President Moon personally presented rank insignias to three representatives of the appointees, and First Lady Kim Jung-sook congratulated the new start by gifting boutonnieres with flowers.
