[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] Hamed Bakayoko, Prime Minister of C?te d'Ivoire, passed away on the 10th (local time), according to reports citing the C?te d'Ivoire presidential office by AP News. He was 56 years old.
Prime Minister Bakayoko had traveled to Paris a month ago for cancer treatment and was recently transferred to Germany. The C?te d'Ivoire government announced his death in a statement broadcast nationwide on television that evening.
Bakayoko was appointed Prime Minister in July last year following the death of then-Prime Minister Amadou Gon Coulibaly from a heart condition.
Prime Minister Coulibaly was the chosen successor of President Alassane Ouattara. Due to Coulibaly's sudden death, President Ouattara reversed his promise not to run for a third term and amended the constitution, pushing through a third term amid opposition protests.
