On the 11th, the 3rd Criminal Division of Daegu District Prosecutors' Office announced that A (63) was arrested and indicted on charges of murder.
Mother A is accused of brutally beating her son (then 35 years old) for about 2 hours and 30 minutes at a temple in Cheongdo, Gyeongbuk, last August, causing his death.
It was reported that she struck her son's head and other parts over 2,000 times with a bamboo stick and her feet.
Since June 15, A had been residing at a temple in Cheongdo and had her son assist with the temple's beekeeping business, but when her son said he would disclose internal temple matters to outsiders, she committed the crime under the pretext of corporal punishment.
According to closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at the time, the son did not resist much during the assault and begged for forgiveness.
The police sent A to prosecution without detention on charges of injury resulting in death, but the prosecution indicted her on charges of murder with detention.
