Gwangju City Announces '2021 Ecocultural Village Development Project' Contest Until the 24th
For Village Communities, Non-Profit Organizations, Institutions, and Schools
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 11th that it will jointly hold a contest for the ‘2021 Ecological Cultural Village Making Project’ with the Gwangju Sustainable Development Council.
The target applicants are village communities, non-profit organizations, institutions, schools, etc. with addresses in Gwangju City, and applications can be submitted until the 24th.
In particular, this year’s contest theme includes not only the 5th Agenda Implementation Project but also a special project area for climate crisis response, marking the inaugural year of carbon neutrality in 2045.
The implementation project areas are ▲water circulation city ▲urban forests combining front and back mountains ▲resource circulation in daily life ▲urban agriculture involving citizen participation ▲sustainable development education, and the special project areas include ▲rainwater storage facilities for water circulation ▲projects related to urban heat island phenomena.
If selected for the contest project, up to 6 million KRW per project will be supported, and activities of village communities will be supported by inducing education and agenda learning focused on practical responses to the climate crisis.

Meanwhile, the Ecological Cultural Village Making Project is a representative village community project in Gwangju, selecting and supporting about 30 small-scale village projects annually since 2009. So far, it has supported over 400 communities and has established itself as a representative grassroots village movement in the region.

Song Yong-su, head of the Climate Environment Policy Division of the city, said, “This year’s contest project is a citizen practice movement for realizing Gwangju City’s 2045 carbon neutrality and a village community movement that improves quality of life. We will support education and various content so that citizens can participate proactively.”
