Korea GM Holds Completion Ceremony for Changwon Painting Plant for Next-Generation Vehicle Production
8만㎡ Scale... Capable of Producing Spark, CUV, and Even Larger Vehicle Classes
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Korea GM has completed the construction of a new painting plant in Changwon for the production of next-generation new vehicles.
Korea GM held a completion ceremony for the painting plant on the 11th at the Changwon Plant in Changwon-si, Gyeongnam. Attendees at the ceremony included President Kaher Kazem, Roberto Rempel, CEO of GM Technical Center Korea, Chung Man-ki, Chairman of the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association, Park Jong-won, Governor of Gyeongnam, and Heo Seong-mu, Mayor of Changwon.
The newly constructed painting plant within the Changwon Plant is a three-story building covering 80,000㎡, capable of painting 60 vehicles per hour. Cutting-edge technologies were applied to ensure the highest quality, including full automation of key processes and environmentally friendly facilities. Notably, the completed painting plant was designed to produce not only the existing Chevrolet Spark size but also crossover utility vehicles (CUVs) and vehicles of a larger size.
Since the management normalization agreement with the Korea Development Bank and others in 2018, Korea GM has continued investing in the Changwon Plant to produce next-generation global crossover utility vehicles (CUVs) by 2023. In addition to the completed painting plant, Korea GM plans to continue construction of several new facilities within the Changwon Plant, including the press line, body line, and assembly line.

President Kaher Kazem stated, "Korea GM has been fulfilling the promises made to stakeholders in 2018, and the completion of the new painting plant in Changwon is one of the milestones in fulfilling those promises," adding, "Following the successful launch of the global new vehicle Chevrolet Trailblazer in both domestic and export markets, the investment in the Changwon Plant will enable us to produce the promised next-generation global new products."
