Why Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, Takes Special Support for At-Risk Youth in Blind Spots?
Applications open until March 29 for special support project for at-risk youth... Support includes 'basic living expenses, medical examination and treatment fees, admission and tuition fees, career counseling, litigation costs'... Last year, 12 at-risk youth received 16 million KRW in support
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Kim, a youth from Jungnang-gu, was able to protect his precious dream last year through the Youth Special Support Project. Despite not being able to attend school due to difficult family circumstances, he passed the qualification exam with a high score through special support from Jungnang-gu and is currently nurturing his dream to enter the desired workplace.
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is accepting applications for the '2021 Youth Special Support Project' to support low-income youth in crisis situations and to prevent delinquency and deviation until March 29.
The support targets low-income youth aged 9 to 18 years old with a median income of 72% or less (65% or less for living and health support) who are not receiving support under other systems or laws.
Low-income youth include those who have dropped out of school or need support to prevent delinquency and deviation, youth without guardians, or those who are not effectively protected by their guardians.
Whether support is granted is finally decided through deliberation by the Community Youth Integrated Support System (CYS-Net) operating committee.
The support includes ▲basic living expenses ▲examination and treatment costs and medication expenses ▲admission fees, tuition, and qualification exam fees ▲technical skill acquisition and career counseling costs ▲litigation costs, etc., and one urgent item needed most by the supported youth is provided in cash or related services.
Applications can be submitted by the youth themselves, guardians, school staff, social workers, or youth counselors by visiting the local community service center of their address.
For inquiries, contact the Sports and Youth Division of Jungnang-gu Office, each community service center, or the Jungnang-gu Youth Counseling Welfare Center.
Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi of Jungnang-gu said, “Youth, who will be the main actors of society, should never have to give up their precious dreams due to economic reasons,” and added, “We will prepare various support measures so that local youth do not lose hope.”
Meanwhile, last year, the district supported about 16 million won to 12 local youths through the Youth Special Support Project, greatly helping them overcome difficult situations.
