View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seok-jin] Park Beom-gye, Minister of Justice, stated that the goal is to form the Prosecutor General Candidate Recommendation Committee on the 11th to select a successor to Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol.
As the government joint investigation team (Joint Investigation Team) is currently investigating allegations of speculation involving employees of Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) in the 3rd new town development, it has been decided to dispatch one additional prosecutor specializing in real estate investigations. Regarding the possibility of further dispatches, Minister Park said, "It is difficult to guarantee."
On the evening of the 10th, Minister Park told reporters on his way home, "The goal is to form the Prosecutor General Candidate Recommendation Committee on the 11th." However, he left room for adjustment, saying, "They need to confirm themselves."
According to the Prosecutors' Office Act, the Prosecutor General Candidate Recommendation Committee is convened by the chairperson upon the request of the Minister of Justice, or when one-third or more of the committee members request it, or when the chairperson deems it necessary.
The committee consists of nine members, including one chairperson: ▲ Director of the Prosecutor's Office at the Ministry of Justice ▲ Deputy Director of the Court Administration Office ▲ President of the Korean Bar Association ▲ President of the Korean Association of Law Professors ▲ Chairperson of the Council of Law Schools ▲ a former high-ranking prosecutor (at least at the level of senior prosecutor) who served at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office and is highly respected socially ▲ three persons who are not qualified lawyers but have academic knowledge, virtue, and extensive experience in various professional fields (at least one of whom is female). These members are appointed or commissioned by the Minister of Justice. The chairperson is also appointed or commissioned by the Minister.
Currently, the ex officio members are Lee Jeong-su, Director of the Prosecutor's Office at the Ministry of Justice; Kim Hyung-doo, Deputy Director of the Court Administration Office; Lee Jong-yeop, President of the Korean Bar Association; Jeong Young-hwan, President of the Korean Association of Law Professors; and Han Ki-jung, Chairperson of the Council of Law Schools?five members in total.
The remaining four non-ex officio members must be appointed or commissioned by Minister Park.
Meanwhile, regarding the possibility of dispatching additional prosecutors to the Joint Investigation Team investigating LH employees' real estate speculation allegations, Minister Park said, "It is difficult to guarantee." The government decided at an emergency meeting of related agencies on the same day to dispatch one additional prosecutor specializing in real estate investigations to the Joint Investigation Team. Currently, one senior prosecutor is dispatched to the team providing legal support.

Regarding the prosecution's additional role related to the LH allegations, Minister Park responded, "I predict that many warrants will be issued."
