[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] The Special Investigation Unit for Real Estate Speculation Offenders, established within the National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters (Guksubon), has been elevated to operate as the "Government Joint Special Investigation Headquarters."
Guksubon announced on the 9th that this decision was made in connection with Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun's directive the previous day to establish a Government Joint Special Investigation Headquarters regarding speculation allegations involving employees of the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH).
The head of the Government Joint Special Investigation Headquarters will be Nam Gu-jun, the head of Guksubon, and investigative personnel will be significantly increased, centered on the anti-corruption investigation units of each metropolitan and provincial police agency. Additionally, experts will be dispatched from related organizations such as the National Tax Service and the Financial Services Commission to assist in operations.
The scope of the investigation will be expanded beyond the 3rd New Town development areas to include suspected speculative regions related to real estate policies being developed by local governments nationwide.
