KT and Gangwon-do to Establish Quantum Cryptography and Quantum Information Communication Ecosystem
Signing of MOU for Digital New Deal Cooperation
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] KT announced on the 9th that it will strengthen cooperation with the Gangwon Provincial Government by actively establishing an ecosystem covering the development, dissemination, and workforce training of quantum information communication technology in the digital New Deal sector.
On the same day, Shin Su-jeong, head of KT's Enterprise Division, and Choi Moon-soon, governor of Gangwon Province, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the KT West building in Jongno-gu, Seoul, focusing on expanding the quantum information communication infrastructure.
KT is operating a domestic technology development ecosystem involving 10 industry-academia-research institutions to promote the spread of quantum information technology. KT and the Gangwon Provincial Government plan to build a related ecosystem together with promising small and medium enterprises in the quantum cryptography and quantum information communication fields, such as Kowever and EYL.
In particular, KT and the Gangwon Provincial Government will jointly develop business opportunities utilizing quantum information technology through the "Gangwon Provincial Government?Chuncheon City Hall Quantum Cryptography Infrastructure Pilot Project," a '20 Digital New Deal public contest project.' Based on this, they plan to expand the dissemination of quantum information communication and develop related businesses in the future.
Additionally, KT will lead the international standardization of domestic quantum information communication technology, strengthen support for small and medium enterprises' technology, and enhance cooperation in research and development (R&D) projects. The Gangwon Provincial Government will train specialized personnel at regional hub universities and apply new tasks to nationally supported projects. Through this, it is expected to contribute to the expansion of quantum information communication infrastructure.

Shin Su-jeong, head of KT's Enterprise Division, emphasized, “We will strive to make Gangwon a mecca for quantum cryptography communication technology development and business together with the Gangwon Provincial Government,” and added, “We will contribute to revitalizing the Gangwon-type information and communication technology (ICT) industry through the Gangwon Digital New Deal project.”
