[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] With 147 courses of Seoul Free Citizens University set to begin their first session on the 22nd, a total of 35 campuses?including the main campus, four regional campuses, and 30 university-linked citizens' universities?announced that they will start recruiting students for the first semester of the 2021 academic year from the 9th.
The 147 courses consist of seven regular departments offered at the main and regional campuses: Humanities, Civic Studies, Seoul Studies, Socioeconomics, Cultural Arts, Environmental Studies, and Future Studies. They also include university-linked citizens' university courses that leverage the specialized fields of universities located in Seoul, as well as common master's programs.
Currently, due to the social distancing level 2 measures in place because of COVID-19, all courses are conducted in real-time online formats. If the level is lowered to 1.5 or below, courses may switch to in-person classes.
Especially for the first semester of this year, under the theme "Shared Intelligence, Opening All of Seoul," a special course series titled '溫 · ON · On' was prepared to comfort Seoul citizens exhausted by COVID-19 and to encourage overcoming difficulties together.
In addition to the regular courses, the university-linked citizens' universities, prepared by 30 universities in Seoul in cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, offer courses that combine humanities with future technologies, the highlights of classical Chinese novels, and viewing the world through Kant's perspective, guiding new ways of seeing the world.
Jung Jae-kwon, Dean of Seoul Free Citizens University, said, "The courses for the first semester of 2021 focus on themes that can comfort and help citizens overcome the fatigue caused by COVID-19. We hope many citizens will take interest in this valuable opportunity to share profound humanities education for Seoul's future and citizens' lives, and to engage with various social topics such as climate change and the economy."
