Megabox Live Broadcasts Performance in Real Time
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The globally popular game League of Legends (LoL) 'BGM (a newly coined term referring to background music)' meets the orchestra.
Sejong Center for the Performing Arts announced on the 8th that it will present the stage of 'League of Legends Live: The Orchestra' in April, where the music of League of Legends can be enjoyed with magnificent orchestral sounds. This is the first planned performance by Sejong Center utilizing a game and the first concert Riot Games is presenting in Korea. The performance, which had generated high expectations by surpassing 90% seat occupancy last November, was postponed once due to the spread of COVID-19.
League of Legends, Riot Games' flagship title, is regarded as the world's best MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game, where players fiercely compete with strategies to win battles on unique battlegrounds and terrains. It harmoniously combines elements of role-playing and strategy games, adding the fun of combat action. It offers excellent accessibility and continuous enjoyment without boredom, with over 150 diverse champion characters providing endless and thrilling fun. Beyond the game itself, the globally popular LoL esports is also a fun element that players can enjoy together.
This performance will present representative tracks that express the game’s worldview powerfully yet romantically, accompanied by a magnificent orchestra and dazzling visuals. From the orchestra version of 'Warriors,' the background music of the 2020 season cinematic video introduced for the first time in Korea, to the 'Pentakill Medley' that will thrill all game players, the concert will showcase well-known music from League of Legends along with videos displayed on a giant LED screen, offering the audience a special audiovisual experience.
In particular, this performance will deliver an energetic stage under the baton of Jin Sol, who is recognized as a specialist in contemporary music and has innovatively led fusion across fields such as games and traditional Korean music (gugak), alongside the KBS Symphony Orchestra, Korea’s representative orchestra. The collaboration with a band, an opera choir, and the Seoul Youth Gugak Orchestra, which will add musical completeness, is also noteworthy. The Seoul Youth Gugak Orchestra, an arts group under Sejong Center, will perform representative tracks expressing the League of Legends worldview magnificently using traditional Korean instruments, enriching the stage further.
For the first time since the opening of Sejong Center, the audience will be able to enjoy interactive content by using mobile devices and become part of the performance. Real-time reactions such as emoticons and texts sent by the audience while enjoying the concert will be simultaneously displayed on the large screen above the stage, creating a unique performance where the audience and the show communicate interactively across the proscenium.
The event venue will be filled with attractions such as large balloon promotions, photo zones, and champion cosplay. In particular, five champions beloved by League of Legends players?‘Bard,’ ‘Amumu,’ ‘Teemo,’ ‘Twitch,’ and ‘Blitzcrank’?will appear as a ‘Champion Orchestra’ in the form of large balloons welcoming citizens in front of the Sejong Center Grand Theater.
