According to the BBC and Daily Mail on the 6th (local time), Candice Barber (35), a teacher at Princes Risborough School located in Buckinghamshire, England, had sexual relations with a minor student and sent nude photos of herself. It was confirmed that Barber even threatened the student by saying she would make him fail if he reported the inappropriate relationship to the school or others.
The court pointed out, "This is a breach of duty and you used the student for your own sexual gratification," and ruled, "The victim was a 15-year-old child, about to enter the final year of school. You coaxed a student under your supervision into an inappropriate relationship."
It also criticized, "Moreover, you threatened to fail him by abusing your authority. This is an act beyond despicable."
Barber's lawyer argued, "She is 5 feet tall (about 152 centimeters), so physically it was difficult for her to force an inappropriate relationship on the student." It is also known that the lawyer defended by showing her packed schedule, claiming she was not free enough to engage in an inappropriate relationship.
On the other hand, the victim's lawyer countered that the incident caused the student to be unable to focus on the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) exams, negatively affecting his test scores.
Previously, in the first trial in September last year, Barber was found guilty of sending nude photos to the student but was acquitted of having an inappropriate relationship because the victim denied having sexual relations.
However, police investigations revealed that Barber threatened the student by saying, "You are pregnant with my child." The victim admitted, "I couldn't tell the school because she said I was pregnant with her child," and "I was worried the child would grow up in prison."
