Hyundai Mobis Collaborates with 13 Domestic Companies to Promote Localization of Vehicle SW Platform
Massive Expansion of SW Workforce...Hundreds of New Research Personnel to be Hired
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Hyundai Mobis is teaming up with 13 domestic specialized developers to localize vehicle software platforms.
On the 7th, Hyundai Mobis announced that it recently established a 'Software Development Cooperation Ecosystem Consortium' with domestic software specialists including LG Uplus, Hyundai AutoRon, Obigo, UnitronTech, ThorDrive, and Amosense.
The software platform jointly developed by Hyundai Mobis and the specialized developers is an integrated product that standardizes, shares, and modularizes various software systems necessary for vehicle operation. Just as a single hardware platform can be applied to multiple vehicle models, the fusion of software element technologies can enhance efficiency.
The collaboration areas between Hyundai Mobis and the 13 companies include autonomous driving (recognition algorithms, AI computing), infotainment (web cloud services, occupant-specific recognition solutions, graphic solutions), and platform standardization?all sectors expected to have high added value in the future car market.
Research and development will utilize an open platform approach. Hyundai Mobis provides the foundational system platform, and partner companies add their own software technologies. Previously, partners supplied element technologies, and Hyundai Mobis integrated and mass-produced them into products.
Hyundai Mobis thoroughly guarantees the proprietary intellectual property technologies held by partners through confidentiality agreements during the collaboration process. With the introduction of the platform approach, the number of participating partners is expected to gradually increase.
Additionally, Hyundai Mobis has separately prepared and offers free shared office space near Seolleung Station in Seoul to allow core personnel from specialized developers to work freely. This serves as an open innovation space where related developers gather to organically promote advanced development.
Furthermore, Hyundai Mobis plans to operate a joint sector, a human organization that promotes joint research with partner companies. This dedicated organization integrates Hyundai Mobis’s software R&D personnel as well as staff from planning, purchasing, and sales departments to enhance product competitiveness. It will be responsible for R&D support necessary for software platform development and expanding collaboration with specialized developers.
Hyundai Mobis also intends to strengthen collaboration with specialized developers starting from the software field and expanding to vehicle semiconductors and electronic component evaluation sectors, thereby fostering an expanded R&D ecosystem. This is based on the design capabilities secured in both hardware and software, aiming to increase synergy in the vehicle semiconductor sector.
A Hyundai Mobis official stated, "We expect to secure leadership in the vehicle semiconductor market, which is currently experiencing a global supply shortage, through collaboration with domestic companies."
Moreover, Hyundai Mobis plans to massively recruit new personnel to expand its own software specialists. The number of new software research personnel to be hired this year is expected to reach triple digits. In the second half of the year, a software competition will be held targeting relevant majors, and top coding performers will be separately recruited.
As a university-industry linked recruitment plan, Hyundai Mobis encourages employment of software major students currently participating in projects with universities collaborating with Hyundai Mobis. The company plans to continue mid- to long-term R&D projects and attract outstanding talent. A software-specialized undergraduate internship program will also be operated, providing on-site training and mentoring programs in business departments during vacation periods.
