Sleeping Passenger's Valuables Stolen by Substitute Driver Caught After 8 Months
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] A designated driver who stole a passenger's wallet after giving them a ride was arrested by the police.
The Namyangju Southern Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 5th, "We have arrested designated driver A (42) on theft charges and sent him to the prosecution."
A is suspected of stealing luxury wallets, cash, and other valuables worth about 3 million won after parking a customer's car in an apartment complex parking lot in Namyangju last June.
According to the police investigation, A left the scene after parking the customer's car but returned a few minutes later and stole the valuables from the sleeping passenger without getting out of the car.
The police analyzed CCTV footage showing A approaching the customer and, after an investigation lasting about eight months, apprehended A on the 18th of last month.
A denied the charges, but the court issued an arrest warrant, citing that A had no fixed residence and there was a risk of reoffending.
