LG, Facing Corporate Split, Registers 'LX' Trademark with KIPO... Will It Become New Holding Company Name?
[Asia Economy Reporter Woo Su-yeon] LG Group, which is preparing for a spin-off centered around Advisor Koo Bon-jun, has applied for the trademark 'LX' with the Korean Intellectual Property Office. This has led to interpretations that the new holding company's group name may be decided as 'LX'.
According to the Korea Intellectual Property Information Service on the 4th, LG Group's holding company filed 90 trademark and image applications for 'LX' with the Korean Intellectual Property Office through a specialized patent law firm on the 2nd of this month.
Industry insiders believe that the trademark 'LX' registered by LG Group is highly likely to be adopted as the name of the new holding company scheduled for spin-off in May. This is because the process of trademark registration application must be completed as a preliminary step for selecting the CI (Corporate Identity) representing the company.
Regarding this, LG Group stated cautiously, "Nothing has been finalized yet."
The late Koo Bon-moo, former chairman of LG Group's younger brother, Advisor Koo Bon-jun, is preparing for a spin-off by establishing a new holding company centered on five LG Group affiliates (LG International, LG MMA, LG Hausys, Silicon Works, and Pantos) in May.
