[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Hwajeong 1-dong Welfare Council in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City is drawing attention by delivering shoes to new middle and high school students for the new semester.
According to Hwajeong 1-dong on the 4th, the Welfare Council delivered shoe gift certificates worth 100,000 won to 20 new middle and high school students in the area.
The shoe delivery is said to carry the meaning of encouraging young people, who will lead the future of the local community, to "wear new shoes and soar vigorously for the new semester."
At the delivery ceremony, only Welfare Council members attended to minimize face-to-face contact due to COVID-19. The shoe gift certificates were delivered directly to the homes of the new students' families.
Formed in 2015, the Hwajeong 1-dong Welfare Council is carrying out various projects to improve the welfare of neighbors in need of care, such as the elderly, disabled, children, and youth, as well as local residents.
In particular, it is conducting various sharing activities for residents in welfare blind spots and crisis households that do not receive national assistance.
Last year, more than 150 sponsors donated 22 million won as contributions to sharing campaigns, and residents are also supporting the Welfare Council's activities.
Chairman Kim Young-chae said, "With the launch of the 4th Welfare Council this year, we will promote various welfare projects that residents can feel based on our accumulated know-how."
