KOICA, Establishment of Iraq's First Specialized Intensive Care Hospital
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) announced on the 4th that it will build Iraq's first specialized intensive care hospital in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq.
Since 2016, KOICA has invested 9.42 million dollars to strengthen Iraq's specialized intensive care medical service capabilities.
The hospital, which began construction on the 3rd, is scheduled to be completed in 2023. It will have four floors above ground, one basement floor, a total floor area of 7,000㎡, equipped with 8 operating rooms, 3 consultation rooms, and 100 beds.
In January and February of this year, Iraq experienced three suicide bombings and missile attacks, resulting in 49 deaths and 133 serious injuries. Due to such civil war and bomb terror, there were about 3,000 cases of severe trauma treatment last year.
KOICA also provided specialized intensive care training for Iraqi medical personnel. Once the specialized intensive care hospital is established, 645 trained medical staff will work there, which is expected to help improve the professionalism of medical services and reduce intensive care patient mortality rates.
