[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, who has repeatedly expressed strong opposition to the ruling party's legislative push to establish the Serious Crime Investigation Office (Jungsucheong), took a half-day leave on the morning of the 4th. On the same day, some media outlets reported the possibility of "Prosecutor General Yoon's resignation," drawing attention to his schedule.
According to the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, Yoon Seok-yeol took a half-day leave and did not come to work in the morning. However, it was reported that he would come to the Supreme Prosecutors' Office in the afternoon to carry out scheduled appointments.
The day before, he visited Daegu High Prosecutors' Office and District Prosecutors' Office, held a staff meeting and dinner, and departed for Seoul around 8 p.m. Prosecutor General Yoon has traditionally taken leave the morning after business trips, but this leave attracted attention as it came immediately after his strong remarks regarding the recent "Geomsu Wanbak" (complete removal of prosecutorial investigative authority).
On the previous day, just before visiting Daegu High Prosecutors' Office and District Prosecutors' Office, when asked by reporters whether he would resign from his position before the end of his term if the ruling party forcibly proceeded with the establishment of Jungsucheong, he replied, "It is difficult to say that now," and refrained from elaborating. Regarding his intention to enter politics, he also avoided answering, saying, "This is not the place to discuss that."
As a result, some speculated that Prosecutor General Yoon might soon announce his resignation.
However, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office explained that there was "nothing to confirm" regarding the resignation rumors and that the scheduled appointments for the day would proceed without changes.
