Samsung Engineering "Successful Installation of Large Modules at Vietnam Plant"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Samsung Engineering announced on the 4th that it has successfully installed a large module in a petrochemical project in Vietnam.
Samsung Engineering stated that it recently installed the polypropylene unit module of the Long Son petrochemical project currently underway in Vietnam. This module is a large structure weighing 1,382 tons and measuring 54 meters in height. It was fabricated at a separate module fabrication yard near the project site, then transported by sea and land before completing installation on site. Samsung Engineering applied a total of 17 modules to this project.
Samsung Engineering explained that plant construction projects require effective management of variable conditions such as weather, equipment, manpower supply, and safety issues on site, which determine the success or failure of the project. Therefore, in addition to this project, the company is focusing on business execution innovation through modularization. The modularization method divides complex plants into transportable sizes, fabricates them in a controlled environment at a separate module fabrication yard, and only installs them on site.
A Samsung Engineering official said, "Since the late 2000s, Samsung Engineering has demonstrated modularization achievements in more than 10 projects. Modularization has effects such as minimizing on-site safety risks, ensuring quality, and shortening construction periods," adding, "We will accelerate EPC execution innovation by expanding modularization application in other projects in the future."

Meanwhile, the Long Son petrochemical project (Package B, C), being carried out on Long Son Island in Vung Tau City on the southern coast of Vietnam, is a project to build production facilities for 450,000 tons per year of HDPE (high-density polyethylene) and 400,000 tons of PP (polypropylene). Samsung Engineering won the EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) contract alone in 2018 and is currently progressing according to plan with about 80% completion.
