Dobong-gu Conducts Safety Inspection Around School Routes Ahead of New Semester
Thorough Inspection of Walking, Traffic, and Study Environments Around 47 Elementary, Middle, and High Schools... Immediate Correction After Checking Yellow Carpet Management on Children's School Routes and Other Inconveniences
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dobong-gu (Mayor Lee Dong-jin) is conducting a safety inspection of school routes around schools to ensure that students can commute safely at the start of the new semester.
The safety inspection will be conducted for about 11 days from February 26 to March 12, focusing on the walking environment such as traffic facilities on school routes frequently used by students around 47 schools (15 locations in Ssangmun-dong, 9 in Banghak-dong, 15 in Chang-dong, and 8 in Dobong-dong) including elementary, middle, and high schools in the area.
The inspection will first verify whether the recently revised Road Traffic Act amendments have been reflected.
In particular, this inspection will focus on checking the installation of unmanned traffic enforcement equipment, pedestrian crossing signals, speed limit and safety signs related to crosswalks, and speed prevention facilities within designated school zones in accordance with Article 12 of the Road Traffic Act (Designation and Management of Children Protection Zones). If deficiencies are found, immediate improvement measures will be prepared.
Along with this inspection, Dobong-gu plans to check the safety of facilities and elements that impair urban aesthetics such as damaged roads and sidewalks, illegal parking, roadside storage, and illegal dumping of garbage to ensure students can use the school routes safely and comfortably.
Additionally, by intensively checking the management status of Yellow Carpets, which have been greatly helpful in effectively reducing the risk of children's traffic accidents, the district will do its best to create safer and more pleasant school routes for the new semester.
Based on the inspection results, Dobong-gu will promptly handle simple issues such as illegal dumping of garbage, and for parts requiring costs and construction periods such as facility damage, it will prepare and carry out maintenance plans as soon as possible.
