"K-Syringe" Sets World First Vaccine Record with 12 Doses from 10 People

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Hanah Na] The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) has allowed the number of people vaccinated per vial of COVID-19 vaccine used domestically to be increased by 1 to 2 more at vaccination sites. This is the world's first case of increasing the number of vaccinations per vial.
When using syringes with the 'Low Dead Space (LDS)' technology developed by domestic companies, the number of people vaccinated per vial of the Pfizer vaccine can increase from 6 to 7, and for the AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine, from 10 to 11-12 per vial.
The COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team distributed the 'Vaccination Implementation Method' containing this information to vaccination sites nationwide on the 27th.
According to the official document, when using low dead space sterile syringes, if there is any residual amount left after vaccinating the recommended number of people per vial, additional vaccinations can be administered with the remaining amount to reduce waste. The low dead space syringes were supplied to the KDCA by domestic companies DuWon Meditech and Shin-A Yanghaeng, and Poonglim Pharmatech donated syringes to the Korean government ahead of exports to the United States.
On the same day, Jung Ki-hyun, director of the National Medical Center, told Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun, who came to observe the Pfizer vaccine administration, "The syringes are good, and the nurses' skills are excellent, so better results can be expected."

He added, "If we do it properly in the morning, we can verify it. When the frozen Pfizer vaccine is thawed, there is about 0.45cc, and when mixed with 1.8cc of saline solution, the total volume becomes 2.2cc. If the dose per injection is 0.3cc, it yields 7 doses."
