Hotel Industry Differentiates with Unique Breakfast Menus
New Menu Targeting MZ Generation, Collaboration with Premium Tableware Brand, Exotic Hansang Presentation, etc.
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] The hotel industry is seeking differentiation through unique breakfast menus.
According to a recent survey conducted by HotelsCombined targeting 2,000 men and women in their 20s and 50s in Korea, the most preferred service during a hotel staycation was breakfast vouchers (60.6%), ranking first. The preference was significantly higher, nearly twice that of the second-ranked outdoor swimming pool vouchers (30.3%).
Accordingly, hotels are targeting staycationers by strengthening breakfast menus reflecting the latest trends and launching unique packages to differentiate their breakfast content. In particular, the hotel industry explains that as the number of 'meokcanceu' (food staycation) enthusiasts enjoying hotel cuisine increases among younger generations such as those in their 20s and 30s, more attention is being paid to breakfast menus.
Paradise Hotel Busan introduced a new breakfast menu targeting the MZ generation (Millennials and Generation Z) at its premium buffet 'On the Plate.' Catering to those interested in healthy lifestyles, they prepared fermented vinegar drinks with detox effects and self-pressed juices made from fresh vegetables. The egg benedict corner, where guests can make their own, is a new attempt reflecting the MZ generation’s preference for personalized tastes. The 'live dim sum' corner, where a Chinese chef prepares dishes on the spot, offers visual enjoyment to the 2030 generation seeking 'fun.'
JW Marriott Hotel Seoul paid attention not only to the breakfast menu but also to the tableware. They recently launched the 'Morning Delight in Bed' package in collaboration with Denby, a premium British tableware brand. Breakfast, consisting of 10 items including Benedict, Belgian waffles, and burrata cheese salad, is served in-room dining style on Denby’s signature Imperial Blue line.
The Westin Chosun Seoul introduced the 'Exclusive Breakfast at Sushi Cho' package, allowing guests to enjoy a quiet, authentic Japanese breakfast in the private room of the Japanese restaurant Sushi Cho. After relaxing in a suite room, guests can enjoy a full-course Japanese breakfast on the hotel’s top floor, the 20th floor. Depending on the room type, the menu includes 'Abalone Porridge Set' featuring abalone porridge made with abalone from Wando and grilled sablefish with miso, or 'Pufferfish Hot Pot Set' with pufferfish stew.
Shilla Stay launched a self-packed breakfast service called 'Breakfast TO GO Lunchbox,' allowing guests to enjoy meals in their rooms. Guests can select any breakfast items from the buffet to pack into a lunchbox and eat leisurely in their rooms. Freshly baked bread, omelets, and fried eggs prepared by chefs on the spot are also provided.
