[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] On the 24th, China accused the United States of threatening peace and stability in the region, claiming that a US Navy destroyer passed through the Taiwan Strait.
Jang Chun-hui, spokesperson for the Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese military, stated on the 25th that the US missile destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur passed through the Taiwan Strait on the 24th, and that the Chinese Navy and Air Force tracked and monitored it. Spokesperson Jang said, "This undermines peace and stability in the region, and China firmly opposes it." He added that the Chinese military is maintaining a high level of vigilance and will respond immediately to any threats and provocations.
The US destroyer continues to conduct "freedom of navigation" operations passing through the Taiwan Strait, which China considers sensitive, and China strongly opposes this.
