President Moon visits Busan Gadeokdo New Airport candidate site
Busan Mayor Acting Authority Reports on Gadeok New Airport Promotion Strategy... Developing Southeast Region as a Global Hub for Aviation Industry, Tourism·MICE, and Finance
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] President Moon Jae-in visited the candidate site for the Busan Gadeokdo New Airport on the 25th.
President Moon attended the Southeast region metropolitan transportation network establishment event held at Busan Bujeon Station that day, then moved toward Gadeokdo.
The Blue House stated, "While moving near Gadeokdo, the acting mayor of Busan briefed the president on the progress of the Gadeok New Airport project and plans for establishing a Southeast region cultural community."
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Hong Nam-ki, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Moon Sung-hyuk, Minister of the Interior and Safety Jeon Hae-cheol, and Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Byun Chang-heum expressed the government's stance on proposals from city and provincial governors related to the Southeast Mega City during the meeting.
The three metropolitan leaders of Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongsangnam-do proposed the construction of the Gadeokdo New Airport, expansion of the Southeast metropolitan transportation network, establishment of a Southeast hydrogen economy zone, support for the successful bid of the 2030 Busan World Expo, and support for the installation of a Southeast metropolitan special alliance.
Acting Mayor of Busan Lee Byung-jin reported on strategies for promoting the Gadeok New Airport, including plans to develop the Southeast region as a global hub for the aviation industry, tourism & MICE, and finance. Additionally, he reported plans to develop the southern coast into a new industry cluster focusing on advanced components, new materials, and marine bio industries, the role of complementing Incheon Airport in emergencies, and plans to improve international airport usage convenience for residents of the southern region.
