Hyundai Motor to Replace All Kona EV Batteries
Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Official Announcement Expected Today
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Hyundai Motor Company is expected to replace all batteries of the Kona electric vehicle (EV), which has recently been controversial due to fires.
According to industry sources on the 24th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is scheduled to announce a recall plan for the Kona EV this afternoon.
The announcement is also expected to include the investigation results on the cause of the Kona EV fires.
Hyundai Motor is reported to have submitted a follow-up plan to the Ministry earlier this week to replace all batteries of the problematic Kona EV.
Industry insiders estimate that the recall scale could reach about 30,000 vehicles, including approximately 25,000 Kona units produced from September 2017 to March last year and sold domestically, as well as vehicles produced after April last year.
