License Revocation for Doctors Convicted of Imprisonment or Higher Crimes, 7 out of 10 Support [Realmeter]
'Support' 68.5% vs 'Oppose' 26.0%
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] A public opinion survey revealed that 7 out of 10 people support a medical law amendment that cancels a doctor's license if the doctor commits a violent crime and receives a prison sentence without labor.
According to Realmeter's survey commissioned by OhmyNews on the 23rd, targeting 500 men and women nationwide aged 18 and older, 68.5% responded that they 'support' the cancellation of licenses for doctors convicted of crimes punishable by imprisonment without labor (50.1% strongly support, 18.4% somewhat support). Those who 'oppose' accounted for 26.0% (12.1% strongly oppose, 13.9% somewhat oppose), and 5.5% answered 'don't know.'
Support for the medical law amendment was dominant across all regions. In particular, about 8 out of 10 residents in Gwangju and Jeolla (79.3%) expressed support, showing the highest rate. Daejeon, Sejong, Chungcheong, and Incheon, Gyeonggi recorded 77.5% and 72.5% respectively, exceeding the overall average. Following were Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam (64.4%), Seoul (60.6%), and Daegu, Gyeongbuk (57.1%) in order of support rate.
Support was evenly distributed across age groups. Among them, the 40s age group showed the highest support rate at 85.6%, followed by the 50s and 30s at 73.2% and 71.4%, respectively, both above the overall average. Next were the 20s (57.9%) and 60s (55.6%).
Among those aged 70 and older, support was 62.8%, higher than opposition at 20.1%, but the 'don't know' or reserved response was 17.1%, higher than the overall average.
There were differences in support and opposition according to ideological tendencies. Progressives and moderates supported the amendment at rates of 87.9% and 69.8%, respectively, while conservatives were almost evenly split with 52.3% support and 44.6% opposition.
Support and opposition also varied by political party affiliation. About 9 out of 10 supporters of the Democratic Party (89.9%) supported the amendment, whereas about half of the People Power Party supporters (51.6%) opposed it.
