Ministry of SMEs and Startups Builds 5G Millimeter Wave Testbed for Startups
Opening of Korea's First Millimeter Wave Experimental Space at Pangyo Startup Campus
Establishing a Foundation for New Markets and Businesses Based on 5G
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 23rd that it has established the country's first '5th Generation Mobile Communication (5G) Millimeter Wave (28 GHz) Testbed for Startups' at the Pangyo Startup Campus.
The testbed was created within the Pangyo Startup Campus, covering an area of 300㎡. The 5G millimeter wave (28 GHz) testbed for startups was promoted to induce innovation in 4th Industrial Revolution application services such as entertainment and autonomous driving by utilizing ultra-high-speed and ultra-low-latency millimeter waves.
28 GHz is a high frequency with a wavelength of 1 mm to 1 cm, and its speed is 20 times faster than 4G (LTE). In this space, an optimal demonstration environment is provided where compatibility verification and other necessary processes for the development of devices and related components based on millimeter wave (28 GHz) can be conducted, focusing on entertainment and immersive content fields.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups, KT, and the Gyeonggi Center for Creative Economy and Innovation plan to promote through the testbed ▲ establishment of demonstration equipment such as base stations and terminals ▲ provision of edge cloud service environments and technical consulting ▲ management of equipment and facilities, and hosting 5G-related contests and seminars.
At the opening ceremony demonstration event held that day, startup TeamGrit showcased remote driving of an RC car, Lucid Dream presented a virtual museum tour, and Innertainment introduced an idol group fan meeting service using virtual reality technology.
