On the 22nd (local time), Daft Punk officially announced their disbandment by releasing an approximately 8-minute video titled 'Epilogue' on their official YouTube channel.
The video shows the two members walking in a desert, bidding each other farewell, and one member activating a timer that causes himself to explode. Immediately after, the phrase ‘1993~2021’ appears, signifying that they will officially cease activities starting this year.
Daft Punk has received a total of six Grammy Awards at the United States' Grammy Awards, the world's most prestigious music awards, and is credited with expanding the popularity of EDM music beyond its niche fanbase. Their representative songs include 'One More Time' and 'Get Lucky.'
Members Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter formed Daft Punk in Paris, France, in 1993. They first achieved number one on the US Billboard Dance Music Chart with the 1997 release 'Da Funk,' and later gained worldwide fame with the 2001 album 'Discovery.'
In particular, their album 'Random Access Memories' winning the 'Album of the Year' award at the 2014 Grammy Awards is regarded as the most important moment in Daft Punk's music career. This was the first time in EDM history that the highest honor at the Grammys was awarded.
