Gyeongbuk Province Reopens Remodeled 'Yecheon Museum'... Dokdo Special Exhibition Until End of May
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 22nd that it will hold a joint special exhibition with the Dokdo Museum under the theme "Yecheon (醴泉), the Land of Loyalty and Filial Piety, Meets Dokdo (獨島)" at the Yecheon Museum, which reopened after remodeling. The special exhibition will continue until the end of May.
Attendees at the reopening ceremony and special exhibition included Kim Hyun-mo, Commissioner of the Cultural Heritage Administration; Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province; Lim Jong-sik, Superintendent of Gyeongbuk Office of Education; Do Ki-wook, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Council; and donors of treasures.
The Yecheon Museum, which began remodeling in 2017, was completed last December with a total budget of 4.7 billion KRW, including 2.1 billion KRW from the national government, 500 million KRW from the provincial government, and 2.1 billion KRW from the county government. The museum has a total floor area of 2,948㎡, consisting of one basement floor and two above-ground floors.
The Yecheon Museum houses about 20,000 artifacts, including 268 national treasures, the largest number among public museums in Korea. Major treasures include ▲ Sasi Chanyo (early 15th century), the first metal movable type book in Joseon ▲ Daedong Yunbugunok (1589), the first encyclopedia in Korea ▲ Mankuk Jeondo (1661), the finest Western-style world map in Korea.

The Yecheon Museum holds 201 of the 694 volumes of Daedong Yunbugunok, and plans to transfer the entire collection managed at the Chogan Jongtaek in Yongmun-myeon to the museum in May.
The joint special exhibition with the Dokdo Museum, which began with the reopening, is divided into two parts and runs until May 31.
The first part of the exhibition consists of ▲ The Maritime Kingdom Usan-guk ▲ Joseon's Territory Usan and Mureung ▲ Japan's Illegal Invasion ▲ Dokdo, Our Territory Reclaimed. The second part presents the ten grounds for Japan's claim to Dokdo sovereignty and corrects ten errors, exposing the falsity of Japan's claim to Dokdo sovereignty.
