Hampyeong-gun Takes Strong Administrative Action Against AI Quarantine Violations
Fines Imposed on Farms Violating Quarantine Guidelines, Compensation Reduced
[Hampyeong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Jeonnam Hampyeong-gun recently announced on the 22nd that it will impose fines on farms confirmed with highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) for violating quarantine guidelines.
Following the outbreak of highly pathogenic AI on the 25th of last month, the county conducted preventive culling of 7 poultry farms and approximately 320,000 birds within a 3km radius of the affected farm and imposed movement restrictions on poultry farms within a 10km radius.
During this process, an epidemiological investigation was conducted to identify the infection route, which revealed multiple violations of quarantine guidelines by the farms.
Meanwhile, livestock quarantine authorities have been implementing adjusted quarantine measures for two weeks starting from the 15th.
This measure was prepared after a comprehensive assessment of the situation, including the decrease in the spread of highly pathogenic AI, reducing culling within a 3km radius from all poultry species to culling only the same species as the infected species within a 1km radius from farms with highly pathogenic AI outbreaks.
However, since the outbreak of highly pathogenic AI causes significant damage not only to local government finances but also to neighboring farms, thorough quarantine awareness among farms is required.
