Gyeongbuk Province Invests 90.8 Billion Won to Reduce Emissions from Old Diesel Vehicles... Triple Compared to Previous Year

View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gyeongbuk Province announced on the 22nd that it will invest 90.8 billion KRW this year to reduce old diesel vehicles, more than three times the 26.8 billion KRW budget from last year.
The support targets are diesel vehicles with emission grade 5 and construction machinery that meets emission standards before 2005. The number of vehicles supported by category includes 29,050 for early scrapping, 8,938 for low-emission measures such as attaching particulate matter reduction devices, and 1,494 for purchasing new 1-ton LPG cargo trucks.
For early scrapping, up to 3 million KRW is supported; for attaching particulate matter reduction devices, 90% of the device cost is covered; and for purchasing new 1-ton LPG cargo trucks, 4 million KRW is provided. However, for vehicles that cannot be equipped with particulate matter reduction devices, commercial vehicles, small business owner vehicles, and vehicles of basic livelihood security recipients and near-poverty class, support is up to 6 million KRW.

Jo Gwang-rae, Director of the Environment, Forestry and Resources Bureau of Gyeongbuk Province, said, "We secured more than three times the budget compared to last year to meet the increasing demand from residents," and urged, "Please actively participate in the vehicle emission reduction project to reduce fine dust and improve air quality."
Meanwhile, Gyeongbuk Province has been continuously promoting projects to reduce old diesel vehicles. The number of grade 5 diesel vehicles registered in 2019 was 230,000, but now it has been reduced to 170,000, a decrease of 60,000 vehicles.

With a goal to reduce 40,000 vehicles this year, Gyeongbuk Province plans to achieve zero old diesel vehicles by 2024 in line with the government's eco-friendly mobility policy.
