Ministry of Justice to Hold Prosecutor Personnel Committee Meeting on 22nd... Discussion on Mid-Level Executive Appointments
[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The Prosecutor Personnel Committee, which discusses mid-level prosecutor personnel appointments, will be held on the 22nd. The appointments are expected to be made by mid-next week.
According to the legal community on the 19th, the Ministry of Justice will hold the Prosecutor Personnel Committee at 10 a.m. on the 22nd at the Government Complex Gwacheon to discuss promotions and transfers of mid-level prosecutors. Typically, when the committee is held, the results are announced either that afternoon or the following day.
The biggest point of interest in the mid-level appointments is the extent to which Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol's opinions are reflected. The resignation of Shin Hyun-soo, Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs at the Blue House, due to conflicts arising during the high-ranking personnel appointments, could also be a variable. The day before, Minister of Justice Park Beom-gye mentioned that the Ministry of Justice and the Supreme Prosecutors' Office staff are communicating regarding this appointment. He also stated that he is willing to meet separately with Senior Secretary Shin even over the weekend.
The currently vacant position of First Deputy Prosecutor, who oversees the Criminal Division, is expected to be filled by a close associate trusted by Lee Seong-yoon, Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office. However, this is also a point where one can gauge how much Minister Park has reflected the opinions of Prosecutor General Yoon or Senior Secretary Shin to resolve the situation.
The positions of the Second to Fourth Deputy Prosecutors are similar. Although they moved positions in September last year and are not subject to this appointment, some deputies who opposed Chief Prosecutor Lee during Prosecutor General Yoon's disciplinary incident may be replaced.
