'Frequent' Fine Dust Warnings Issued 7 Times This Month in Chungnam
[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Fine dust advisories are becoming frequent in Chungnam.
According to the Chungnam Provincial Institute of Health and Environment on the 19th, a total of seven fine particulate matter advisories have been issued in Chungnam this month.
Fine dust is mainly believed to have been imported from abroad and is analyzed to occur intensively in the Chungcheong region and the Seoul metropolitan area due to atmospheric stagnation. In particular, this year, the phenomenon of fine dust remaining in the atmosphere for a long period is prominent.
Accordingly, the Provincial Institute of Health and Environment is focusing on minimizing damage from fine dust by notifying each city and county of forecast data 72 hours before the occurrence of fine dust using the ‘Chungnam-type Air Quality Analysis and Diagnosis System’ in preparation for high-concentration fine dust occurrences.
The notification of forecast data became possible after completing the advancement project of the Chungnam-type Air Quality Analysis and Diagnosis System last year. The related system is characterized by subdividing the Chungnam area for precise predictive analysis.
In fact, each city and county is proactively using this data for emergency reduction measures and prevention of health damage to residents, according to the Provincial Institute of Health and Environment.
Separately, the Provincial Institute of Health and Environment sends fine dust advisories by fax to 39 institutions including city and county offices, education offices, police agencies, and media, and also operates a text alert service to prevent health damage.
An official from the Provincial Institute of Health and Environment said, “High-concentration fine dust occurrences within the region are expected to continue frequently,” and added, “We urge the elderly, children, and others to frequently check air quality information and comply with high-concentration fine dust response guidelines such as refraining from outdoor activities.”
