New COVID-19 Cases Drop Below 600 After Three Days... 60 Fewer Than Previous Day (Update)
533 Local Cases, 28 Imported Cases
On the 17th, medical staff set up a temporary screening clinic in front of a company within the Jingwan Industrial Complex in Namyangju-si, Gyeonggi Province, where a COVID-19 cluster infection occurred. According to health authorities, one worker at a company in the Jingwan Industrial Complex tested positive, leading to mass testing of about 200 employees at the company. The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of midnight on that day, the number of new domestic COVID-19 cases increased by 561, bringing the total to 86,128. The cases were counted as 533 local transmissions and 28 imported cases, the same as the previous day.
New cases continued to occur mainly in the Seoul metropolitan area. By region, 177 cases were confirmed in Seoul, 182 in Gyeonggi, and 37 in Incheon, totaling 396 cases in the metropolitan area. Additional cases were also reported in all non-metropolitan regions: 22 in Gyeongbuk, 21 in Chungnam, 18 in Chungbuk, 16 in Busan, 12 in Ulsan, 10 in Daegu, 9 in Gyeongnam, 5 in Gangwon, 4 in Daejeon, 3 each in Gwangju, Jeonbuk, and Jeju, and 1 in Sejong.
There were 28 imported cases. Among them, 10 were identified during quarantine, and the remaining 18 were confirmed in the local community. Seventeen were Korean nationals, and eleven were foreigners.
The cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths increased by 6 from the previous day, reaching 1,550. Among hospitalized patients, the number of critically ill patients decreased by 8 to 153 compared to the previous day. The number of patients who were declared recovered and released from isolation increased by 617, totaling 76,513.

On that day, the number of diagnostic tests reported for suspected cases was 42,778, and 32,718 tests were conducted at temporary screening clinics set up in the metropolitan area. At the metropolitan temporary screening clinics, 80 confirmed cases were identified.
