The public art project aimed to create "art in our neighborhood where we meet art in everyday life," providing job opportunities for local artists struggling due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and enhancing the quality of local spaces through culture.
With a project budget of 420 million KRW, including national funds, the city provided creative opportunities to 37 participating artists from the artist team "Cheongchun" (representative artist Yoo Seok-gyu), selected through a public contest in July last year.
In August, the city formed a residents' council and an expert advisory group of 18 members and signed a business agreement with the "Cheongchun" team to officially promote the project.
So far, the city and the "Cheongchun" team have held more than 10 meetings, actively reflecting the opinions of residents and experts, installing 21 art pieces (17 three-dimensional works, 1 media art piece, and 3 resident participation works) with high completeness and stability, and operating resident participation programs.
Experience activities such as "Drawing Our Neighborhood," "Engraving Youth with Handmade Stamps," and "Making Butterflies at Gajwacheon," which are resident participation programs, provided comfort to citizens weary from COVID-19.

Jinju Mayor Jo Gyu-il stated, "This public art project provided artists with opportunities to demonstrate their artistic capabilities and reborn residents' living spaces into cultural spaces where residents communicate and participate together. I hope it becomes a healing space where people can feel small daily happiness and also revitalizes the local alleyway economy."
