[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Gyeom-su) will hold a nationwide student English speech contest as part of the April 19 Revolution National Cultural Festival event in April and is recruiting participants.
The competition is held to inherit the spirit of the April Revolution and to share the historical significance and value of the April 19 Revolution with young people.
Any middle and high school student nationwide with South Korean nationality can participate, and those on leave of absence or attending alternative middle and high schools are also eligible to apply.
Applicants can choose to participate in either the individual or team competition. Teams can be composed of two or three members, but mixed teams of middle and high school students are not allowed.
Applicants can cover any topic related to the April 19 Revolution, such as "The impact and meaning of the April 19 Revolution on the youth generation" and "The relationship between overcoming COVID-19 and the spirit of the April 19 Revolution."
The application period is from March 29 to April 2. Applicants can apply through the April 19 Revolution National Cultural Festival website. At this time, the application form, presentation materials, and a video of up to 6 minutes featuring all participants must be submitted together.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the district will conduct a non-face-to-face evaluation using the submitted videos and plans to announce the results on Monday, April 12.
The awards for the individual competition are ▲Grand Prize (1 person, 500,000 KRW) ▲Excellence Award (1 person, 300,000 KRW) ▲Merit Award (2 persons, 200,000 KRW each) ▲Encouragement Award (4 persons, 100,000 KRW each) ▲Special Award (1 person, 300,000 KRW). For the team competition, the awards are ▲Grand Prize (1 team, 1,000,000 KRW) ▲Excellence Award (1 team, 500,000 KRW) ▲Merit Award (2 teams, 300,000 KRW each) ▲Encouragement Award (4 teams, 200,000 KRW each) ▲Special Award (1 team, 500,000 KRW).
