Daejeon Health University Professors' Union and Student Council Demand Resignation of Chairman and Executives
Through a Statement, Demands for Executive Resignation and Measures on Tuition Accounting Revenue
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Daejeon Health Sciences College Professors' Labor Union, the Student Council, and the Alumni Association have jointly demanded the resignation of all executives, including the chairman of the school corporation Cheongun Hakwon, who improperly used school funds.
On the 17th, the Daejeon Health Sciences College Professors' Labor Union, Alumni Association, and Student Council issued a statement announcing their "Demands for University Normalization." They emphasized the need to rectify the misconduct revealed by the Ministry of Education's audit and to establish an emergency countermeasure committee involving faculty, alumni, and students to restore the university to normalcy.
The professors' union stated, "We urge the immediate resignation of the chairman, directors, and auditors who were pointed out in the audit for jointly misappropriating corporate funds, including the improper investment of approximately 3.5 billion KRW of corporate funds without board deliberation and resolution, misuse of personal communication expenses through the corporate account, and improper execution of vehicle fuel expenses and driver wages through the corporate account." They also demanded that current executives responsible for losses or negligence during the audit period, including the current president and vice presidents, resign.
They added, "The improper expenditures of school funds identified by the Ministry of Education audit must be accounted for as income in the school fund account and disclosed. We demand the immediate cessation of transactions with 'A Sangsa,' a profit-making business affiliated with the school corporation, which purchased approximately 15.7 billion KRW worth of goods through 4,476 improper sole-source contracts for general university supplies, promotional items, practice materials, equipment, and fixtures. Furthermore, we call for a self-audit involving university members to recover the misused school funds."
The professors' union also urged, "We demand a fair investigation into the case where low-quality paint was supplied causing a loss of 260 million KRW and the purchase of LED lamps without conformity assessment resulting in payments of 495 million KRW. Additionally, all contracts with Company B, which was involved in three cases of improper sole-source contracts that should have been subject to open competitive bidding, must be terminated."
They further stated, "Recover 2.2 billion KRW?the difference between the construction costs and land value related to the former kindergarten building and Narae Hall kindergarten jurisdiction?from the corporate or kindergarten accounts and record it as income in the school fund account. Given the expected decrease in enrollment relative to the university's admission quota, we demand the suspension of plans for new school building construction."
