[Golf Topic] Mickelson 'Turning into a Broadcast Commentator?'
[Asia Economy Reporter Noo Rae] ○…Veteran Phil Mickelson (USA, photo) is expected to become a broadcast commentator.
Mickelson's business partner Steve Roy said in an interview with Front Office Sports on the 17th (Korean time), "I would not be surprised if Mickelson appears as a broadcast commentator within the next one or two years." He added, "I always discuss career matters with Mickelson" and "We have started talks with several broadcasters." His likable appearance, witty speaking skills, and deep knowledge of the PGA Tour both on and off the course are his strengths.
Last year, during the major PGA Championship, he received favorable reviews when he briefly appeared in the broadcast studio alongside Jim Nantz, considered the best golf broadcaster in the US, and commentator Nick Faldo. He has long been recognized for his talent in broadcasting. However, the astronomical appearance fees are the biggest obstacle to Mickelson's transition to a broadcast commentator. If he continues to participate in tournaments, it is questionable whether he can take on 10 to 20 broadcasts annually.

Mickelson is a player who has won a total of 44 PGA Tour titles, including five major championships. He collected three different major trophies by winning the Masters in 2004, the PGA Championship in 2005, and The Open in 2013. If he wins the US Open, he will become the sixth 'Career Grand Slammer' in global golf history. Having turned 50 last year, he is now competing concurrently on the Champions (Senior) Tour. On the Senior Tour, he has appeared twice and won both times, showcasing his strong performance.
