Mirae Company, SQube Launch ToF 3D Camera... "Expecting Entry into Smart Appliances and Facial Recognition Fields"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Mirae Company (CEO Kim Jungoo) has become the first in the industry to launch the True VGA-level ToF 3D camera ‘S.Cube,’ equipped with Samsung Electronics System Semiconductor Division’s ToF image sensor dedicated companion chip (MR1000).
Recently, in the 3D ToF sensor market, which has become a hot topic in various fields such as smartphones, smart home appliances, and autonomous driving, Mirae Company has attracted market attention by releasing the next-generation 3D ToF camera ‘S.Cube’ with dramatically improved performance.
With the release of S.Cube, it is expected that the limitations of existing ToF 3D cameras using FPGA (a type of programmable non-memory semiconductor) can be overcome significantly.
S.Cube is evaluated as a 3D ToF camera that did not exist in the market before, as it is smaller in size compared to existing 3D ToF cameras, has significantly lower power consumption and heat generation, and improved recognition accuracy. In contrast, by applying the directly developed dedicated chip MR1000, it has launched a 3D camera with enhanced price competitiveness compared to existing models, already drawing strong interest from client companies.
A representative from Mirae Company stated, “Although the development period of the companion chip (MR1000) installed in S.Cube was longer than expected, delaying the launch slightly, we are confident in S.Cube’s performance as it was carefully planned. S.Cube was manufactured with a more compact sensor module size by applying the self-developed MR1000 and mobile-sized lens,” emphasizing this point.
They added, “Because the True VGA 3D depth image does not go through separate computing resources, it enables more vivid 3D video output.”
In particular, S.Cube has four times the number of pixels and three times the video output speed compared to existing models, making it easier to extract feature points such as the eyes, nose, and mouth of moving people. This makes it an optimal solution for facial recognition fields.
Additionally, it enables much more accurate motion recognition and obstacle detection, allowing for the provision of more sophisticated 3D sensor solutions in fields such as robot vacuum cleaners, smart home appliances, robots, and automotive.
Furthermore, S.Cube enhances user convenience by applying the most universal image sensor communication method, ‘I2C control MIPI,’ and supports Windows, Linux, Android, and ROS environments. This allows developers to easily apply it to various desired applications.
