Daegokcheon Petroglyphs Group Selected for Priority World Heritage Tentative List
World Heritage Nomination Application Remains as Nomination Candidate and Nomination Target
On the 16th, the Cultural Heritage Administration selected the 'Daegokcheon Petroglyphs' as a priority candidate for UNESCO World Heritage inscription at the World Heritage Subcommittee meeting of the Cultural Heritage Committee. The Daegokcheon Petroglyphs collectively refer to the petroglyphs in the Bangudae Valley area, including 'Ulsan Cheonjeon-ri Engraving (National Treasure No. 147)' and 'Ulsan Daegok-ri Bangudae Petroglyphs (National Treasure No. 285)'. They were registered on the UNESCO tentative list in 2010.

To submit a World Heritage nomination dossier to UNESCO, two more stages must be passed: the Tentative List and the Nomination List. A Cultural Heritage Administration official stated, "To achieve World Heritage inscription, we plan to proceed with domestic procedures such as the review for selecting the Tentative List candidate in cooperation with Ulsan City, in accordance with the 'Regulations on UNESCO World Heritage Nomination'."
