[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 16th that H5 subtype avian influenza (AI) antigen was detected at a meat duck farm in Jangsu-myeon, Yeongju-si.
At this farm, which raises about 7,000 meat ducks, the antigen was detected during the regular surveillance inspection conducted every two weeks by the Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory. The confirmation test for high pathogenicity is being conducted by the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency. The final judgment will take 1 to 2 days.
If confirmed as highly pathogenic avian influenza, the temporarily adjusted standards applied since the 10th will be enforced, and culling will be carried out only on the same species within a 1 km radius of the affected farm.
Therefore, since there are no duck farms within a 1 km radius of the affected farm, culling will be limited to the approximately 7,000 ducks at the affected farm. Gyeongbuk Province is conducting emergency surveillance on 21 poultry farms with a total of 2,548,000 birds within a 10 km quarantine zone.
