"Youth Housing Benefits, Now Apply Online"
From the 17th, Separate Application for Youth Housing Benefits Available on 'Bokjiro'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 16th that from the 17th, young adults can easily apply online for separate housing benefits through the welfare service portal ‘Bokjiro’.
The separate payment of housing benefits for young adults (hereinafter referred to as young adult housing benefits) is a system implemented since last month that provides housing benefits separately to unmarried children in their 20s who live apart from their parents for purposes such as study or job seeking, in addition to the housing benefits paid to the parents within the beneficiary household. Beneficiary households correspond to those with a standard median income of 45% or less (KRW 1,792,778 for a three-person household).
For example, in a three-person household consisting of two parents living in Cheongju and one 20-something child living in Seoul, KRW 183,000 per month is paid to the parents, and KRW 310,000 per month is separately paid to the child. On the other hand, if the parents and three children all live together in Cheongju, a general housing benefit of KRW 217,000 per month is paid.
Until now, young adult housing benefits had to be applied for by visiting the Eup, Myeon, or Dong administrative welfare centers in person, but from now on, applications can be easily made online through Bokjiro from home or workplace.
To apply online for young adult housing benefits, applicants can access the ‘Bokjiro’ website and authenticate themselves using their public certificate before applying. Detailed application requirements and methods can be found on the ‘Bokjiro Online Application Website,’ and inquiries can be made through the Housing Benefit Call Center or the Health and Welfare Counseling Center.
