Gwangju Seobu Fire Station: "Proper Management of Old Fire Extinguishers Can Prevent Major Fires"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Seobu Fire Station (Chief Lee Cheontaek) emphasized the importance of replacing old fire extinguishers as one of the measures to reduce casualties in residential fires.
According to Seobu Fire Station on the 15th, residential fires accounted for about 28% of all fires nationwide over the past three years, and among them, deaths accounted for 50%, half of all fire-related deaths.
Residential fires have been found to cause relatively greater damage compared to other types of fires.
Generally, a fire extinguisher is known to have the effect of one fire truck in the early stages of a fire. Therefore, if only old fire extinguishers are regularly replaced, significant casualties can be prevented.
When an old fire extinguisher reaches its service life or becomes unusable and needs to be discarded, it can be handled by contacting the district office’s waste disposal agency according to the "Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Waste Management Ordinance."
