Myanmar Military Extends Aung San Suu Kyi Detention Until the 17th
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The detention period of State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi has been extended by two days until the 17th.
On the 15th (local time), Suu Kyi's lawyer, Kin Maung Cho, announced this court decision in the capital Naypyidaw, according to major foreign media reports.
The Myanmar military, which staged the coup, initially planned to place Suu Kyi under house arrest until this day after charging her on the 3rd with using illegally imported radio equipment without permission (violation of export-import law).
With the extension of Suu Kyi's detention period, there is speculation about additional charges. Locally, rumors are circulating that the military government is considering charging Suu Kyi with treason.
