Six Koreans Among the World's 500 Richest People
[Asia Economy Reporter Junho Hwang] There are six domestic billionaires ranked within the top 500 richest people in the world.
On the 14th, according to the global top 500 richest people ranking compiled by the U.S. economic news service Bloomberg (as of the 10th), six Koreans entered the list, including Lee Jae-yong, Vice Chairman of Samsung Electronics (51st place).
Also included are Seo Jung-jin, Chairman of Celltrion (177th), Kim Jung-ju, founder of Nexon and CEO of NXC (201st), Kim Beom-su, Chairman of Kakao's Board of Directors (330th), Kwon Hyuk-bin, founder of Smilegate (401st), and Chung Mong-koo, Honorary Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group (411th).
Among them, excluding Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong, the combined wealth of the other five amounts to approximately 50.4 trillion KRW (45.55 billion USD), which is about 25.7 trillion KRW (23.24 billion USD) or 104% higher than a year ago (24.7 billion USD).
In the case of Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong, it is considered that he inherited the wealth of the late Chairman Lee Kun-hee of Samsung Electronics, who passed away last October and was excluded from the ranking. His wealth is estimated at about 31 trillion KRW (28 billion USD), four times the amount from a year ago (7 billion USD).
Considering that the value of the publicly traded shares owned by Chairman Lee Kun-hee increased from 18.4052 trillion KRW a year ago to 24.0763 trillion KRW currently, an increase of 5.6711 trillion KRW (30.8%), the actual increase in wealth for Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong and others is expected to be even greater.

The individual with the highest wealth growth rate is Chairman Seo Jung-jin, whose wealth rose from about 5.6 trillion KRW (5.09 billion USD) a year ago to 14.5 trillion KRW (13.1 billion USD) currently, marking an increase of approximately 157.4%.
