Seoul Jung-gu Replaces Old Fire Extinguishing Devices with New Emergency Fire Extinguishing Devices at 109 Locations
Complete Replacement of Old Emergency Fire Extinguishers with New Models for Easier Resident Use
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Seoyangho) has completely replaced 109 emergency fire extinguishing devices in the area with new models.
The district began replacing the emergency fire extinguishing devices, which anyone can easily use to suppress fires, in September last year and completed the project last month. What would have taken several years due to budget and other issues was completed in less than a year thanks to the active promotion by Jung-gu Mayor Seoyangho.
With the completion of this project, it has become easier to suppress fires in areas where fire trucks have difficulty accessing, such as highlands, jjokbangchon (small room villages), traditional markets, and densely packed commercial areas.
Additionally, the devices were replaced with a new model called the 'integrated hose reel emergency fire extinguishing device,' which has fire hydrants and hoses permanently connected, overcoming the shortcomings of the previous devices that were difficult for residents to use.
In October last year, a demonstration event for the new emergency fire extinguishing devices was held in front of the Jungnim Comprehensive Welfare Center, attended by Mayor Seoyangho, the chief of Jungbu Fire Station, and nearby residents, where residents learned how to use the devices and practiced individually, providing customized education for residents.
This year, due to COVID-19, non-face-to-face education will be conducted. Together with Jungbu Fire Station, videos on how to use emergency fire extinguishing devices and fire extinguishers, as well as guidance on installing residential fire safety facilities, will be produced and distributed. Minimal face-to-face training will also be provided when practical training is necessary.
Furthermore, a leaflet containing a map of emergency fire extinguishing devices will be created to provide residents with necessary information.
