Jeonnam Province Achieves Record High Sales of 8.1 Billion Won in Lunar New Year Agricultural, Fishery, and Livestock Products
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province's sales performance of agricultural, fishery, and livestock products during this Lunar New Year holiday, both online and offline, achieved record-high sales.
According to Jeonnam Province on the 10th, online sales through Namdo Jangteo amounted to 7.7 billion KRW, and offline sales such as direct transaction markets reached 460 million KRW, totaling 8.1 billion KRW in sales.
The online shopping mall 'Namdo Jangteo' started pre-order sales for Lunar New Year gifts from the 1st of last month, and seven agricultural and marine specialty products including Gangjin Hanwoo beef sets, Naju pears, Hallabong citrus, Damyang grilled short rib patties, and Wando abalone were sold out.
In particular, the top 30 companies showed balanced sales exceeding 10 million KRW each, such as Hampyeong County Nonghyup's Hampyeong Nabirang Yeomun rice with 243 million KRW, Naju Moksagol Agricultural Cooperative's meat gift sets with 238 million KRW, and Cheongjagol Hanuri Agricultural Cooperative's Hanwoo gift sets with 233 million KRW.
This achievement is analyzed as a result of increased demand to compensate for the disappointment of not visiting hometowns due to strengthened social distancing measures, along with the increase of the gift limit for agricultural and livestock products under the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act to 200,000 KRW, which significantly boosted sales of high-end premium products.
Looking at the sales trend of Namdo Jangteo during Lunar New Year, it increased significantly from 100 million KRW in 2019, 2.3 billion KRW in 2020, to 7.7 billion KRW in 2021, with strengthened online promotions and advertising playing a role in raising awareness of Jeonnam's agricultural specialty products.
Offline sales through direct transaction markets recorded 464 million KRW. Promotional events were held at Kim's Club Yatap branch, Shinsegae Department Store Gwangju branch, Lotte Department Store Busan Gwangbok branch, and 33 traditional markets in Seoul, with 63 local companies participating.
So far, the province has diversified distribution channels through strategic partnerships with 31 companies including the Jeonnam Regional Post Office and sent promotional materials more than three times to 8,500 public institutions such as government and local governments.
Additionally, non-face-to-face promotions were strengthened through YouTube channels such as 'Gwangju Jeonnam City and Province TV' and 'National Guide TV,' in collaboration with the Seoul-Gyeonggi Province Alumni Association.
Soyoungho, Director of the Agricultural, Fishery, and Food Bureau of Jeonnam Province, said, "Ahead of the nation's biggest holiday, Lunar New Year, we are selling excellent agricultural and marine specialty products from Jeonnam both online and offline so that consumers can purchase easily and conveniently. We will especially focus on strengthening non-face-to-face marketing and sales to contribute to increasing farmers' income and revitalizing the local economy."
