Due to the popularity of 'Jipkokjok'... 'VIPS Yam Delivery' sees 5-fold increase in delivery sales during year-end and New Year holidays
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Amid a social atmosphere where outings are discouraged due to COVID-19, consumption of 'Dining Out at Home' to enjoy restaurant menus at home is rapidly increasing.
CJ Foodville announced on the 10th that sales of its delivery-only brand ‘VIPS Yum Delivery’ from December last year to January this year increased about fivefold compared to the previous year.
‘VIPS Yum Delivery’ is a premium delivery service brand launched by VIPS in August last year to capture the surging demand for special restaurant meals. After debuting mainly in the Seocho and Gangnam areas, it received high customer response and expanded the service to stores nationwide in December.
The main reason is analyzed to be the increase in small gatherings at home, which is comfortable and safe, as social distancing spread due to the third wave of COVID-19 during the year-end and New Year holidays. Also, with the increase in eating at home due to telecommuting and online classes, demand for special restaurant meals grew larger than for easily accessible Korean food.
VIPS continuously upgrades menu composition and packaging by analyzing delivery order customers' consumption behavior through big data. They have strengthened optimized set compositions by the number of people, such as steak, pizza, and pasta-centered sets for 2-3 people with the highest demand, and Yum Party sets suitable for small gatherings of 3-4 people. Recently, they introduced a new ‘Single Platter’ for office workers dining alone and single-person households.
Customer response to eco-friendly packaging is high. It is known that there is a positive reaction to paper certified as eco-friendly, plant-based ink that decomposes easily in nature, and reusable multi-use bags.
VIPS Yum Delivery can be used through delivery platforms such as Baedal Minjok, Yogiyo, Coupang Eats, and store phone orders, and currently offers practical benefits for ordering customers, including up to 10,000 KRW discounts on Baedal Minjok and Coupang Eats.
