"Zero Education Blind Spot Project" Focuses Gujeong's Efforts on Bridging Digital Education Gaps...▲ Digital Device Support ▲ Online Learning Support by Digital Tutors ▲ General Learning Support by University Student Mentors ▲ Comprehensive Care Support for Customized One-Stop Service... Dedicated Task Force (TF) Comprising 6 Departments Formed for Dynamic Project Implementation... First Matched Household for Project Target on the 3rd of This Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) is focusing its administrative capabilities to promote the ‘Education Blind Spot Zero Project’ aimed at eliminating the digital education gap.
With the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic expanding the realm of public education into homes through online platforms, the local government is committed to fulfilling its responsibility to prevent disparities in the educational environment.
To drive this dynamic and efficient project, the district recently formed a dedicated task force (TF) consisting of six departments: Education Support, Public-Private Cooperation, Planning and Budget, Welfare Policy, Smart Information, and Children and Youth.
Based on this, the project will implement ▲donations of digital devices such as laptops ▲online learning support by digital tutors ▲general learning support by university student mentors ▲inspection of online usage environments and device usage education ▲emotional support by Seodaemun Innovation Education District’s Our Village Instructors.
Additionally, it will connect ▲educational content from Seodaemun-gu Convergence Talent Education Center ▲material sponsorship through private welfare resources ▲reading education by reading discussion class instructors ▲care services from local children’s centers ▲meal support and desk-chair provision for children facing food insecurity.
On the 3rd of this month, the first beneficiary family of the ‘Education Blind Spot Zero Project’ was matched.
On that day, the district delivered a laptop necessary for online learning to a child from a low-income single-parent family in the area who will enter elementary school next month. This laptop is one of the 100 units donated last month by NH Nonghyup Card to the district.
Furthermore, IT staff from the district office inspected the family’s Wi-Fi environment and provided guidance on how to use the laptop.
Moreover, in connection with the ‘University Student Mentoring Program,’ mentors will support academic subjects. University student mentors assist mentee students online twice a week for two hours each day.
Seodaemun-gu operates 11 mentoring programs, including Yonsei Dream Start and Ewha-Seodaemun Win-Win Joy.
Also, the tutors of the ‘Digital Tutor Project,’ which Seodaemun-gu launched nationwide for the first time last September, help the child smoothly attend online classes at school.
In addition, children are linked to the ‘After-School Program’ at local children’s centers to provide care support.
The district plans to actively identify the needs of families in educational blind spots through schools, community service centers, and welfare departments at the district office, continuing to provide optimal customized support in a ‘one-stop’ manner.
