[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Samsung Electronics' budget smartphone, the 'Galaxy A12,' has been set with a maximum official subsidy of 153,000 KRW.
The three mobile carriers announced the official subsidies for the Galaxy A12, which was released on the 9th. The official subsidies by carrier are ▲SK Telecom 90,000 to 140,000 KRW ▲KT 101,000 to 153,000 KRW ▲LG Uplus 60,000 to 100,000 KRW, with KT offering the highest subsidy. The Galaxy A12's retail price is 275,000 KRW.
SK Telecom's official subsidies are 90,000 KRW for the T Plan Save, 106,000 KRW for the T Plan Safe 2.5G, 121,000 KRW for the T Plan Safe 4.0G, 140,000 KRW for the T Plan Essence, 140,000 KRW for the T Plan Special, and 140,000 KRW for the T Plan Max. KT provides official subsidies of 153,000 KRW for DataON Premium, 140,000 KRW for DataON Video, and 101,000 KRW for DataON Talk. LG Uplus offers official subsidies of 60,000 KRW for the 33 plan and 100,000 KRW for the 69 plan.
When consumers purchase a phone through a carrier, they can choose between the official subsidy and the selective contract discount. Choosing the official subsidy reduces the smartphone price by the amount set for each plan, while selecting the selective contract discount gives a 25% discount on the monthly fee.
For example, if a customer subscribes to KT's DataON Premium plan priced at 89,000 KRW and purchases the Galaxy A12 with a retail price of 275,000 KRW, they receive an official subsidy of 153,000 KRW plus an additional subsidy (up to 15% of the official subsidy), totaling a discount of 175,900 KRW. The actual purchase price becomes 99,100 KRW.
